Lush and green Cochamó County, situated within the Reloncaví estuary and considered to be the site of the first fjord of the Patagonia is nestled between Chile’s Andes mountain chain and the Pacific Ocean.
The numerous lakes, rivers, mountains and valleys of the region serve as an exquisite backdrop for horseback riding, trekking, cycling or kayaking. The variety of trails for trekking that Cochamó offers takes us through thousand year-old Alerce (Fitzroya cupressoide) forests as well as along the purest bodies of water of the Andes mountain chain. These crystalline waters are even more enjoyable for dipping into on the warmer summer days. The same trails are just as easily appreciated on horseback. Among the many rivers in the Paso Leon sector that spring from the Andes, the Puelo, Manso, Cochamó, Traidor, Candelaria and Laguna Brava Rivers are among the favorites for world class fly fishing experience.
Tagua-Tagua, Azul and Las Rocas Lakes are favorite spots for kayak expeditions. It is also possible to navigate the Puelo River from its Argentinean origin all the way to the Reloncaví Estuary. For mountain bikers the trail between Llanada Grande County and Lake Azul is quickly becoming a classic. To complete the circuit riders take a motorboat to the lakes southern extreme, where they begin the trip back home following the Puelo River.
The area of Cochamó offers an ever widening gamut of options which highlight personalized, top-notched service within warm southern kitchens. Meals prepared by experienced local hands elaborate dishes that abound in typical ingredients of the area. The warmth of those kitchens has become a key element for gathering strength for further outdoor exploration of The Secret of The Patagonia.
